We had a great time in Dearne Valley Park in 2025. These are the Skate Tours for 2026
Dearne Valley Park 2026
Would you like to try your skills in the real world? We’ll be getting used to different surfaces – starting with the very smooth, wide and flat, and practicing ways to manage rough areas, until we can do a circuit of the park and follow paths out towards the edges. There are over 2 miles of paths in Dearne Valley Park, and the aim will be to skate around 3.5 miles, but might be more or less depending on how the group are doing.

We’ll practice braking – first on the flat, then we’ll work up to slopes. We’ll also practice other skills that people want to try which could include tight turns (on hills), stepping up and down from kerbs, going backwards or jumping obstacles.
The trip will run on Sunday 16th August 3pm. The cost is £20 per skater.
The first half will be suitable for beginners and will stay in the easier sections of the park, lasting about 1.5hrs. People who are more confident and who can brake to a stop can stay on for some more challenging sections. The trip is aimed at adults, but adult skaters can bring their children if they are of similar skating ability.
We will be meeting in Dearne Valley Park Car Park. Please bring snacks and water, as we will be stopping for breaks. Full protective gear must be worn – helmets and knee, elbow and wrist pads. Protective gear and skates can be borrowed from the centre for an additional fee, if added to the booking form below.
Please note that in bad weather, the tour might need to be postponed or cancelled. In this case, if a new date cannot be set that the skaters can make, they will be refunded.
The Trans Pennine Trail
I have run this trip on the Trans-Pennine Trail from Penistone to Thurgoland in previous years.

Beginners can do the middle section from Green Road in Penistone to Roughbirchworth Lane in Oxspring, which is around a mile.
More confident skaters can start at St John’s Community Centre in Penistone and finish at Cote Lane, Thurgoland. All skills practice is optional, but we’ll look at braking, kerbs, parallel turns and jumping.
The trip will run on Sunday 23rd August 3pm. The cost is £20 per skater.
